Frances Moroney Whited Reading Scholarship
This scholarship recognizes an outstanding student in the Childhood Certification program who has demonstrated commitment and potential for excellence in the teaching of literacy in the elementary classroom.
A Professor Emeritus of Education at SUNY Brockport, and a founder of the Reading Teacher Master’s Program, Dr. Frances Moroney Whited is known for her commitment, leadership and dedication to quality education. She is a mentor to students, teachers, and administrators and is a role model exemplifying high standards of service. In 2005, Dr. Moroney Whited was named “A Woman of Distinction” by Pi State and was recognized by the New York State Board of Regents for her many outstanding contributions to education and to her community.
Eligible students must
- Be accepted in the Childhood Certification program in the Department of Education & Human Development.
- Demonstrate academic excellence as judged by the department scholarship selection committee.
- Demonstrate potential for and a commitment to excellence in the teaching of literacy in the childhood classroom as judged by the department selection committee.
This scholarship will be credited to the recipient’s bill in the form of a non-tuition educational expense grant. It must be used for educational expenses and may not be received as cash.
