James A. Schiller Award

This fund was established by the Department of Political Science and International Studies in memory of James A. Schiller to encourage a student to pursue a career in public service. James A. Schiller was a SUNY Brockport political science major, a resident of Greece, a former U.S. Marine, and a dean’s list student. He was most noteworthy, however for his intense interest and involvement in practical politics. From childhood, he had been fascinated by politics and had worked actively in several election campaigns. He continued that interest in college to the extent that he was a member of his party’s town committee in Greece. He was scheduled to participate in Brockport’s Washington Semester Program during Spring 1986 and to graduate in May 1986. He planned, thereafter, to enter a career in practical politics. James died prematurely January 10, 1986.
