Raye H. Conrad Migrant Worker Scholarship

This fund was established to recognize, encourage and assist a current or former migrant farm worker or members of their families who are accepted for study at SUNY Brockport.

Dr. Raye H. Conrad was a teacher and administrator at SUNY Brockport from 1945-1973. Dr. Conrad joined the faculty as a professor of psychology in the General Education program. He served as coordinator of field services, dean of students, director of elementary and secondary education, and dean for certification programs during his Brockport career. He initiated Brockport’s Migrant Education Program for teachers and received statewide recognition for his leadership roles in the New York State Parent Teachers Association. A frequent guest speaker, Dr. Conrad was highly respected as a leader in education. He was a beloved teacher and friend.

A 1937 graduate of Buffalo State Teachers .College, Dr. Conrad received his master’s degree in 1942 from Niagara University and his doctorate from Penn State in 1952. After retiring from Brockport in 1973, he spent much of the next 13 years traveling with his wife, Beatrice, a retired College nurse. Dr. Conrad passed away in August 1986 at the age of 71. Bea passed away the following year.

Dr. & Mrs. Conrad’s son, Dr. Robert C. Conrad retired from his position as the assistant superintendent for instruction and personnel with the Brockport Central School District in 2007. He also served, for many years, as an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Education & Human Development at Brockport. Their daughter, Patricia Raye Conrad died in 1964 while attending SUNY Geneseo.

Eligible students must

  1. Be a current or former migrant farm worker or a member of a current or former migrant farm worker family.
  2. Be a full-time or part-time student at SUNY Brockport.
  3. Demonstrate an interest in learning, and the potential for success as a college student as judged by the selection committee.

This scholarship will be credited to the recipient’s bill in the form of a non-tuition educational expense grant. It must be used for educational expenses and may not be received as cash.
