Robert E. Hall Memorial Scholarship in Mathematics

This fund was established by the Department of Mathematics to recognize an outstanding student who has demonstrated overall excellence in mathematics, with special strength in the area of abstract algebra and who has shown a commitment to the use of computers in support of the major.

In September 1986, Dr. Robert W. Hall, a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science for seventeen years, died. In recognition of his dedication as a teacher of mathematics and his many contributions to faculty, staff, and students of the college, a scholarship fund was established in his memory.

Eligible students must

  1. Be a Mathematics major at either the undergraduate or graduate level.
  2. Demonstrate academic excellence evidenced by an overall Grade Point Average of at least 3.25.
  3. Have completed at least 12 hours in the Mathematics Major at SUNY Brockport.
  4. Have completed a course in Modern Algebra at SUNY Brockport with a grade of A.

Special consideration will be given to applicants who demonstrate strength of work in the areas of abstract algebra and the use of computers in support of the mathematics major.

This scholarship will be credited to the recipient’s bill in the form of a non-tuition educational expense grant. If the recipient is graduating, they will receive a cash award instead.
