Janet Ruck '59 Memorial Scholarship
Janet E. Ruck was born in Elba, NY on 4/18/1939. As a high school student, she received the First Elba Student Association Scholarship and upon graduation from Elba Central School in 1956, at the age of 17, she attended SUNY Brockport. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in 1959, graduating magna cum laude.
Janet began her teaching career at age 20 at a Native American reservation in Flagstaff, Arizona and she became certified in K-12 studies/general science in 1963. She then decided to obtain a master’s degree from SUNY Brockport, graduating with honors in Science Education in 1964. Ultimately, she received her permanent certification in school administration and supervision 1977.
Janet taught science for more than 30 years and credited SUNY Brockport with preparing her for her long career in education. Sadly, Janet passed away in August of 2023. Her name will always be connected to her alma mater through this generous scholarship.
