James Francis Harris Memorial Award

This fund was established in memory of James Francis Harris, who while attending the college during his first semester in 1951, died in an automobile accident. This award recognizes an outstanding Brockport student who is a role model for fellow students with disabilities.

Eligible students must

  1. Be an enrolled full-time student at either the undergraduate or the graduate level.
  2. Have a documented disability as registered through the Office of Student Accessibility Services.
  3. Possess a cumulative Grade Point Average of a 2.5 or greater.
  4. Demonstrate evidence of involvement in campus and community activities.
  5. Demonstrate a positive outlook on life, engage enthusiastically in their studies, and is an outstanding role model for their peers and high school students interested in attending Brockport.
  6. Write an essay in a format that is appropriate to the student’s disability (i.e. written, typed, audio recording) describing what the applicant would tell high school students about life on the Brockport campus and address, generally, the subject of attending college as a student with a disability.

This scholarship will be credited to the recipient’s bill in the form of a non-tuition educational expense grant. It must be used for educational expenses and may not be received as cash.

Statements may be submitted in a form appropriate to the disability (e.g. typed, audio taped, videotaped, etc.). Please submit approximately a 500 word response if providing a typewritten statement.
