Kempes Schnell History Scholarship

This fund was established to recognize an outstanding student in SUNY Brockport’s Department of History.

Kempes Schnell was a member of the History Department, SUNY College at Brockport from 1963 to 1988. He was a meticulous scholar and superb teacher who was recipient of the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. He was a model faculty member who grew continually in his varied contributions to the college community. Always a genial, cool-headed colleague, he notably rendered valuable and wise counsel to students and faculty alike.

Eligible students must

  1. Be matriculated in the Department of History at SUNY Brockport at the undergraduate level.
  2. Demonstrate academic accomplishment as evidenced by a cumulative Brockport GPA of at least 3.25 and as determined by the selection committee.
  3. Demonstrate a need for financial assistance as judged by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) minus any other awarded scholarships or grants.

Preference will be given to a graduating senior who has been accepted for graduate study at SUNY Brockport.

This scholarship will be credited to the recipient’s bill in the form of a non-tuition educational expense grant. It must be used for educational expenses and may not be received as cash.
