Hewitt-Lawson Scholarship
Dr. Nancy A. Hewitt ’74 and Dr. Steven Lawson delivered funds to the Brockport Foundation, Inc. to establish the Hewitt-Lawson Scholarship. They believe in the trans formative power a public education, the positive impact educators have on the lives of students, and are deeply committed to removing barriers that may prohibit students from completing their Brockport education.
This scholarship will help students complete their education. It will recognize a SUNY Brockport student in their junior or senior year in the Department of History, who demonstrate academic excellence in the field of history and financial need.
Nancy Hewitt ’74 is a graduate in history and grateful for the public higher education she received. The incredible teachers and mentors she met at Brockport challenged her to work harder, write better, and think more deeply.
Following Brockport, she earned her doctoral degree in the then-emerging discipline of women’s history before beginning her career as a pro fessor at public and private universities, as a textbook author, and is an internationally recognized historian.
Without the encouragement of her Brockport professors, she could never have imagined much less made this journey.
