Donald and Julie McWherter Scholarship

This scholarship, originally developed as a lecture fund, now exists to provide :financial assistance to political science or criminal justice undergraduate students who intend to pursue a career in the field of law. Donald J. McWherter served the State University of New York as a professor of political science and Distinguished Service Professor (an honor conveyed in 1982) for 35 years. This scholarship celebrates Dr. McWherter’s notable service as a teacher, scholar and administrator during his many years of service to SONY Brockport and his belief in the students who were touched by his guiding hand and steady mentorship.

Eligible students must

  1. Be matriculated in either Political Science or Criminal Justice in the pre-law advisement program
  2. Have completed at least two semesters of study at Brockport and possess a GPA of at least 3.25
  3. Intend to pursue a career in the field of law and have demonstrated this commitment through community service and their academic records and co-curricular activities at SUNY Brockport

Preference will be given to students who are twenty five years of age or older at the time of application.

This scholarship will be credited to the recipient’s bill in the form of a non-tuition educational expense grant, split evenly between the fall semester and the spring semester. It must be used for educational expenses and may not be received as cash.
