Martin H. Rogers Award
Dr. Rogers, first chair of what was then the Department of Recreation and Parks (1968-77), worked at the institution from 1945 to 1977. Prior to his duties in recreation and leisure, he was director of athletics for three years in the 1940s, chair of men’s physical education (1945-63), and director of Health and Physical Education, 1963-68. Dr. Rogers was head coach or assistant coach for baseball, basketball, diving, football, and gymnastics while teaching at the College. Dr. Rogers was one of 16 individuals elected to the inaugural class of the Golden Eagle Athletic Hall-of-Fame in 1985. Upon retirement in 1977, Dr. Rogers was bestowed the title of Emeritus Professor of Recreation and Leisure Studies.
Eligible students must
- Be enrolled as a matriculated student with full-time status, in the Department of Kinesiology, Sport Studies and Physical Education, at either the undergraduate or graduate level.
- Demonstrate academic excellence with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and as judged by the selection committee.
- Demonstrate a commitment to the service of others through their involvement in scholastic and extra-curricular activities on- and/or off-campus.
This scholarship will be credited to the recipient’s bill in the form of a non-tuition educational expense grant. It must be used for educational expenses and may not be received as cash.
