Eileen L. Corcoran Education Award

Dr. Eileen L. Corcoran was a “teachers’ teacher” and excellent communicator who was a well-known and respected authority in the field of special education in the 1970s. She served as president of the Council for Exceptional Children in New York and was appointed by the Governor of New York to the Advisory Council for the Commission on Quality of Care for Mentally Disabled. Her teaching career at SUNY Brockport was rooted in the years she spent teaching learning-disabled students at Brockport High School. The donors established this fund to honor their mother’s commitment to the field of education and inspire students who, like Dr. Corcoran, pursue graduate degrees mid-career, with this recognition and financial support.

Eligible students must:
1. Be matriculated in a Master’s Degree program offered by the Department of Education and Human Development at SUNY Brockport.
2. Be currently employed as a public-school teacher desiring a degree that will lead to mid-career advancement in the field of education.
3. Demonstrate academic excellence with a 3.0 GPA or higher, and as judged by the selection committee.
4. Demonstrate a commitment to completing their degree and career goals upon graduation from SUNY Brockport as judged by the selection committee.
5. Demonstrate a commitment to the career of education and further advancement in their career through the submission of an application and as judged by the selection committee.
6. Only receive this recognition once during their enrollment at SUNY Brockport.

To be considered for this opportunity you must apply through the “All Education and Human Development Scholarships" conditional application.

This scholarship will be credited to the recipient’s bill in the form of a non-tuition educational expense grant. It must be used for educational expenses and may not be received as cash.
