Freitas Family Scholarship
This scholarship recognizes students studying at SUNY Brockport who are actively engaged and dedicated to volunteer work in their home community and/or the greater SUNY Brockport community. Eligible students will demonstrate academic excellence and be an incoming or continuing student at either the undergraduate or graduate level.
Student must:
1. Be a continuing undergraduate or graduate student at SUNY Brockport enrolled in any academic program.
2. Demonstrate academic excellence as judged by the selection committee.
3. Demonstrate active engagement in service-oriented activities that benefit the greater SUNY Brockport community and/or home community. This may include, but is not limited to, consistent volunteer work, leadership roles in service organizations, clubs, or community groups, participation in youth mentorship programs, and/or participation in service-based events or campaigns. Students who are primary caregivers for a family member (e.g., providing regular support for a sibling, parent, child, or other relative) may also meet this criterion, as caregiving is recognized as a meaningful form of community service.
4. Demonstrate financial need, as informed by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and consideration of other scholarships or grants received, as evaluated by the selection committee.
Selection Preferences:
- Primary consideration will be given to applicants with the greatest demonstrated financial need.
- Secondary preference may be given to active participants in the Newman Community and/or members of the Newman Club/Group.
The financial assistance is in the form of a non-tuition educational expense grant that may be used to cover educational costs such as room, board or college fees. The award will be credited to the recipient’s bill during the semester(s) of the award period. The student must use this award for educational expenses at the University and may not receive the award in cash.
