Maliekal-D'Souza Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Dr. Jose Maliekal and Mary D’Souza due to their belief in the transformative power of higher education and their commitment to removing barriers that prevent students from completing their SUNY Brockport education.
Eligible students must:
1. Be a matriculated student at SUNY Brockport, within the School of Arts and Sciences at the undergraduate level, who will be entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year at the time of disbursement.
2. Demonstrate the motivation, commitment, & trajectory to completing their academic course of study as judge by the selection committee.
3. Be involved in at least one activity on or off campus (i.e. student groups, on-campus work, experiential learning, and/ or volunteer activities).
4. Demonstrate significant need for financial assistance as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (F AFSA) minus any other awarded scholarships or grants. With all other eligibility factors met, the student with the greatest need for financial assistance shall be the recipient.
All eligible applications will be considered however, preference will be given to applicants who are:
1. Rising sophomores at the time of their application,
2. First-generation, and/ or,
3. have experienced adversity which includes, but is not limited to, overcoming obstacles such as socioeconomic or educational disadvantages.
This is an Auto-Match Opportunity. Applicants are auto-matched to this award based on their submission of their General Application.
The financial assistance is in the form of a non-tuition educational expense grant that may be used to cover educational costs such as room, board or college fees. The award will be credited to the recipient’s bill during the semester(s) of the award period. The student must use this award for educational expenses at the College and may not receive the award in cash.
