Rev. Dr. Robert W. and Sally R.B. Bermudes Travel Grant
This travel grant was established by the donor, Robert W. Bermudes, Jr., to support students in the Department of History at SUNY Brockport. The fund is named in honor of his parents’ encouragement of his formal and informal education, and to be known informally as “The Bermudes Fund” as that name has particular meaning to the Bermudes family.
The following purposes are eligible for Fund disbursements (and in the order presented):
1. Graduate students seeking funds to support travel or expenses to perform original research in relation to a paper ( or papers) undertaken as part of a recognized history class or degree requirements within the History Dept.
2. Undergraduate or graduate students requesting funds to attend a professional historian’s conference, symposia, or History department approved internship.
3. History department faculty research travel expenses. This optio1:1 has been added to the criteria due to the large build-up of money in the Fund (about $15,000 as of Oct. 2022) and the desire for the Fund to be as helpful as possible within the donor’s original scope.
4. Students must demonstrate academic excellence as judged by History Department Selection Committee.
5. Preference for funding will be given strictly based on the order of the criteria above. The donor believes that students should enjoy the thrill of discovery that comes witl1 original source material.
The assistance is in the form of an educational expense grant to be disbursed as a check to be used for travel and expenses related to the criteria above.
