Jocelyn A. Reed Memorial Scholarship

Jocelyn Angelique Reed was born on January 8, 1997 just over an hour before her father’s birthday. She was a bright, active and rambunctious little girl. She always had a smiling face and making friends came naturally. Her vibrant personality would fill any space that she entered with light. She was a brilliant ray of sunshine. Everyone who has crossed her path can attest to her infectious sense of humor, the ability to make you smile and her passion for life. Jocelyn had an undeniable work ethic and always did more than anyone expected of her. She was inquisitive and adventurous; she tried everything from playing lacrosse and basketball to performing dance on pointe.

Jocelyn’s love of the arts was innate, a blessing and seemingly the essence of her soul. To watch her dance was breath-taking and with each performance she left her audience in awe. On the dance floor, in the classroom, in the quiet of her bedroom she was always there for those she cared about. Her warm and comforting spirit was a blessing. With words of love, encouragement and kindness she was able to help others in need. She was often that pillar of strength for someone else to lean on.

At SUNY Brockport, Jocelyn thrived as a student during her first two years as a double major in Dance and Exercise Science. In testimony of her tenacity and strong work ethic, she amazingly was able to balance her academic life with her active social life. Her lifetime goal was to become a physical therapist, where she would continue to help those in need.

This scholarship was established by Cynthia Powell-Reed, in memory of her daughter Jocelyn.
