NYS Federation of Home Bureaus Scholarship in Honor of Irene Silco Weirich

This scholarship recognizes a full-time undergraduate or a full- or part-time graduate student studying in the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies or the Alcohol & Substance Abuse Studies major with a GPA of 2.85 or better, and who resides in one of the the New York State counties where the NYS Federation of Home Bureaus, Inc., has an organized chapter. Applicants are required to have an in-depth interview with representatives for the NYS Federation of Home Bureaus scholarship selection committee.

Irene Sileo Weirich, an active leader in the New York State Federation of Home Bureaus, taught elementary school and later joined the faculty at The College at Brockport, before retiring in the mid-1980s. She served as Chapter Chairman, Western District Chairperson and the 1998-2000 State President for the NYS Federation, and she represented the organization at the re-enactment of placing the plaque at the Peace Bridge in June 2001. The 97th NYS Federation scholarship in her honor was presented to Dr. David Jewell of Brockport’s Department of Recreation & Leisure Studies during the Federation’s 2002 state-wide annual meeting.
