Paul J. Kronthaler Chemistry Award
Family and friends of Paul J. Kronthaler established this award in his memory to recognize an outstanding senior-year student at SUNY Brockport who is majoring in chemistry.
Mr. Kronthaler was a member of the first class of chemistry majors to graduate from the College in June 1968. He had intended to pursue graduate studies in chemistry with the intention of teaching at the college level. Instead, he was inducted into the United States Army and, after completing basic training, was sent to Viet Nam. He was killed in action there in May 1969, less than a year after graduating.
His family and friends expressed the hope that this award would not only honor his memory but would in some small way further his goal of college teaching.
The recipient of the Paul J. Kronthaler Chemistry Award is selected annually by the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry from among junior-year students who demonstrate meritorious achievement in chemistry, recognizing an outstanding student who has exhibited the best sustained performance in chemistry. The recipient must have at least one semester remaining at Brockport after receiving this award.
