The Thomas R. Taber Scholarship
Acknowledging his lifetime achievements in education, family and friends of Thomas R. Taber ’53 established a scholarship in his name at SUNY Brockport to recognize an outstanding student majoring in Interdisciplinary Arts for Children.
While a student at Brockport, Mr. Taber was a member of the SAGA yearbook staff, the English Club, and the Faculty/Student Association. He also was a member of the track and cross country teams. Following his graduation, Mr. Taber served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Upon his return to the Rochester area, Mr. Taber began his long career in education, serving as a classroom teacher and an administrator. He retired as assistant superintendent of the Webster Central School District. A long-time member of the Penfield Players, Mr. Taber passed away in 2013.
Students eligible for the Thomas R. Taber Scholarship must be enrolled undergraduates in the Interdisciplinary Arts for Children major, have attained at least sophomore status, demonstrate academic excellence with a GPA of 3.0 or better, and have at least two semesters of study at Brockport remaining.
