William B. DeCarlo Award
Friends and family of William B. DeCarlo established a scholarship in his name to recognize an outstanding Recreation and Leisure Studies major at SUNY Brockport.
Mr. DeCarlo was known as an individual of diversity and vision. In addition to his appreciation for his many professional pursuits, his colleagues, his students, and participants of his recreation programs, he was co-author of a book on the role of recreation in industrial relations. The book, Needs Assessment in Employee Services: Industrial Recreation, was published by Wiley in 1980.
He was teaching half-time in the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies in 1983 when he passed away. His colleagues and students organized semi-annual bike-a-thons to support this scholarship.
Applicants qualified for the William B. DeCarlo Award must be declared Recreation and Leisure Studies majors in their junior years when applying. They also must have completed at least nine credit hours in upper-division Recreation and Leisure Studies courses with a 2.5 minimum GPA overall and at least a 3.0 GPA in the major. Applicants should demonstrate a need for financial assistance as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
