William Stebbins Award in Health Science

This scholarship recognizes outstanding students who are matriculated in the academic course of study leading to become a certified Health Education Specialist, qualified to teach health education in elementary or secondary classrooms or serve as a health educator in a community-based agency. Eligible students must demonstrate leadership qualities, outstanding academic ability, and potential for success in the profession.

This scholarship was established by friends and colleagues of Dr. Stebbins to honor his commitment to health education and support of young faculty new to the professional. Dr. Stebbins received his doctorate from New York University and taught at Brockport from 1946-1971. Prior to Brockport, he taught and coached at the secondary level in several school districts in New York. He also taught at the Oswego State Teachers College (now SUNY Oswego). An Army veteran, Dr. Stebbins served in the Medical Corps for two year before coming to Brockport. He was elected to the Golden Eagle Athletic Hall of Fam in 1988 and was widely recognized for his commitment to the profession and especially those young professionals who have chosen to make Health Education their professional calling.
