Michael Tenebruso Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship recognizes a wonderful graduate student who is pursuing a career as a classroom teacher. Eligible students are those who demonstrate academic excellence, a commitment and the potential for excellence in the field of education, and who are enrolled in the Department of Education & Human Development MSEd. Preference will be given students who are enrolled with full-time status.

Michael A. Tenebruso, originally from Batavia, New York, passed away on August 31, 2018 after a long battle with cancer. He graduated from Batavia High School in 1986 and later received his Bachelors and Master’s Degrees in Elementary Education and Educational Administration respectively from The College at Brockport. While there, he served as a founding member of the Greek Chapter of Sigma Alpha Mu. “Mr. T”, as he was known, was later recognized as “Teacher of the Year” at Elba Central Schools. His career continued as a well-respected elementary school administrator throughout Western NY. He served as an assistant principal at Attica Central Schools. Later he became principal at Sheldon Elementary and Hillery Park Elementary schools in Buffalo, NY and received special recognition as the principal of Canal View Elementary School in Chili, NY.

The financial assistance is in the form of an educational expense grant that may be used to cover educational costs such as room, board or college fees. The award will be credited to the recipient’s bill during the semester(s) of the award period. The student must use this award for educational expenses at the College and may not receive the award in cash.
