In the winter of 1985, several members of the faculty who taught in the sciences at Brockport along with science students and staff, established the Harvard House Award. The name for this award was a result of classroom interactions between then undergraduate student, Bob Baden ‘79 and Professor of Physics, Richard V. Mancuso. Dr. Mancuso coined the nickname ’Harvard’ for Bob Baden and future departmental gatherings were dubbed Harvard House. Over the years the individuals who participated in department’s functions collected funds ultimately leading to the original gift to start this fund in 1989. The Harvard House Award is intended to further the education of a student at Brockport who is
interested in physics. In addition the student’s interest in science, the award seeks to foster constructive participation in social and intellectual activities in the many areas represented in the Brockport campus community and fostered by Harvard House.
