William Stebbins Award in Health Science

Friends and colleagues of Dr. Stebbins delivered funds to the State University College at Brockport Foundation, Inc., to honor his commitment to health education and support of young faculty need to the profession. Dr. Stebbins earned his doctoral degree from New York University. He was a secondary school teacher and coach at several New York school districts and taught at SUNY Oswego. He served in the U. S. Army in the Medical Corps during World War II.

After his service, he joined the faculty at Brockport in 1946 as a professor and chair of health and physical education until 1968 when the program was reorganized. He then served as a professor of health science until he retired in 1971. Dr. Stebbins passed away in 1996.

Eligible students must

  1. Be enrolled at the undergraduate or graduate level and be pursuing an academic course of study that will provide them the opportunity to become a School Health Educator and/or Public Health Education Specialist.
  2. Demonstrate academic excellence as judged by the selection committee and possess a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  3. Demonstrate a history of or high potential for success and leadership, along with a commitment to professionalism, within the discipline of health education.

This scholarship will be credited to the recipient’s bill in the form of a non-tuition educational expense grant. It must be used for educational expenses and may not be received as cash.
