Sherwin G Swartout Memorial Award

This fund was established by Eileen Swartout, in memory of her husband Sherwin G. Swartout, a professor ofeducation at SUNY Brockport. This scholarship recognizes an outstanding student, who is employed by SUNY Brockport’s Information Technology Services (ITS), for their excellence in the performance of job responsibilities and, or their commitment to the effective use of instructional technology in higher education.

Dr. Sherwin G. Swartout was a professor and a national authority on educational technology communications and technology from 1950 to 1980. He served as director of audio-visual education beginning in 1952, pioneered the use of instructional television, and helped evaluate the efficacy of a campus radio station. He was active within SUNY, working with colleagues at Buffalo, Fredonia, Geneseo, and Oswego on the possibility of sharing content in educational courses.

Eligible students must

  1. Be a full-time SUNY Brockport student who has worked in ITS for at least 6 months, at the time of application.
  2. Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  3. Have made a significant contribution to the mission of ITS.
  4. Demonstrate the following qualities in the performance of responsibilities: initiative, reliability and above average performance.

This scholarship will be credited to the recipient’s bill in the form of a non-tuition educational expense grant. It must be used for educational expenses and may not be received as cash.
